A foundation owned company
Our ownership by the Ramboll Foundation ensures the long-term and independent development of Ramboll, its employees, and the communities we serve.
Main owner and majority shareholder
The Ramboll Foundation is an independent Danish enterprise foundation with both corporate and philanthropic obligations. The Foundation was established in 1971 by the founders of Ramboll, Børge Rambøll and Johan Hannemann, and three other partners.
The Foundation is the main owner of Ramboll and the majority shareholder. The purpose of the Foundation is to be the best owner of Ramboll and to ensure the financial and commercial continuance and development of the company to the benefit of employees and society.
The Board of the Foundation consists only of current and former Ramboll employees, underlining the importance of employees as stakeholders for the owner. The Foundation also engages in philanthropic activities within defined missions relevant to the work Ramboll engages in, often involving Ramboll employees as experts and volunteers.
Both the Ramboll Group and Ramboll Foundation results are independently audited and published annually.

Ukrainian non‑profit housing organisation, CO-HATY, is the recipient of the Ramboll Foundation Award 2026. The DKK 500,000 award will support CO-HATY’s work with the urgent housing needs for people displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
People and philanthropy
The foundation ownership reflects the ambition of the founders to create a company where revenue is re-invested into the company’s continued development, and where employees feel a strong sense of ownership.
Every year, the Ramboll Foundation donates a part of the dividend from the Ramboll Group to promote sustainable development for the benefit of nature, society, and people.
The Foundation is also a philanthropic organisation, driven by philanthropic missions in regenerative rebuilding, the built environment, and resource management. Where urgently required, the Foundation supports current and former employees and their families in need. The Foundation also provides aid in emergencies and crises through established partnerships with global humanitarian organisations.
Impactful investments in society
Through the Foundation’s mission-driven philanthropic activities, we support and form partnerships with organisations such as the University of California - Berkeley, C40 Cities, UNHCR, Engineers Without Borders, and the WWF.
The Ramboll Foundation Award has been awarded every year since 2020 to a deserving researcher or organisation to support a particular field of expertise. The award is a grant of DKK 500,000.
The Ramboll Foundation further funds Ramboll employees who wishes to undertake a PhD. The support is a collaboration between the Ramboll Group and the Foundation.
